Key Survival Tips: Bow & Drill - How to Find Dry Materials
by Frank Sherwood & Debbie Skougstad

1. Search on higher elevations, away from bodies of .water. Mist and spray saturate nearby areas.

2. Look in areas that receive the afternoon sun, allowing for longer periods of drying.

3. Collect wood from standing dead trees, or pull dead branches from live trees. The ground soaks up moisture like a wick and retains it longer.

4. Quick test for dryness of material: Press against your cheek or just below your bottom lip. These sensitive areas will "feel" any moisture.

5. Observe your landscape and practice looking for dry wood before you find yourself faced with a survival situation

NOTE: If you have any problems related to survival skills, please write us c/o The Tracker, and we'll answer your question in the newsletter, so all may benefit.
