Blowgun

A blowgun is a highly effective hunting tool. Unfortunately, they would be very hard to make in the northern parts of North America, due to lack of appropriate materials.

The best blowguns are made from bamboo.

The blowgun and the "spears".

This photo shows one type of "spears" that can be used in a blowgun. These are made from shish kebob skewers, with downy plant material tied to the ends.

This material is necessary to stabilize and guide the spear in its flight.

Showing the spear placed in the end of the blowgun. The spear is shoved in a little ways, then the blowgun is held to the lips (at the same end), and the spear is propelled out with a sudden gust of breath.

It takes amazingly little breath to propel the spear a great distance!

This particular blowgun is about 6 feet long.

The length is necessary to help propel the spear and also ensure its straight flight path.

This simple shish-kebob skewer has been embedded into this wooden plant stand leg very easily, with very little effort.
